Ministry has been in the forefront of my mind for as long as I can remember.  As the grandson of an “Old Time” Pentecostal preacher I can remember the excitement and passion that was evident when my grandfather preached.  I was enthralled with the power of God in the lives of other ministers I was privileged to meet.

When I was 12 God placed a definite call on my life to the ministry.  Then just about 2 years later God placed a burden for foreign missions in my heart.  God began to deal with me specifically about working in Haiti.  As I grew older I thought perhaps my ministry might take a different turn. I served as Youth director and assistant to the pastor in my home church in Kennett, Missouri for about 7 years. However, the call to the foreign field never left me. Finally in 1989 God graciously allowed my wife and I, along with our 4 year old daughter to begin our ministry in Haiti.  We served as directors of the Bible School from 1989 until 1993.  In 1993 we were appointed as Superintendent of the United Pentecostal Church of Haiti.  We saw God do so many amazing things while working in Haiti!  Then, as is often the case when in the ministry, God began to deal with us about a change in our ministry.  In 2003 we resigned as missionaries and became pastor of Bible Tabernacle.

There are several things we love about Bible Tabernacle of Brandon.  Of course being in Florida gives us great weather!  The people of Bible Tabernacle are really what makes the difference.  They are what makes serving here so special.  When we came as the new pastor we were greeted with love and kindness.  Over the years I have seen this same love and kindness extended to guests and visitors of all different races and nationalities!

It is especially fulfilling for me to be a part of a church that is so racially and culturally diverse.  The different ethnic groups add such a rich blend and depth to our worship. It is great to be a part of a church that has a passion for reaching the hungry, helpless and hurting of the world.  At Bible Tabernacle there is a place for everyone regardless of race, language, culture or social status.  I am so grateful to God for leading us here to serve as pastor of this thriving, vibrant congregation.

Rev.and Mrs. James F. and Carolyn Sue Sharp

Associate Pastor

Reverend Sharp, a native of Columbus, Ohio, came into the Pentecostal fellowship under the ministry of early pioneer, W. T. Witherspoon, Pastor – Apostolic Gospel Church.  He later attended Calvary Apostolic Church, Pastor George Chambers. Here he felt his call to the ministry and attended Calvary Bible College, James K. Stewart – President.

The Sharps’ ministry began in their home state where they served in pastoral capacities in  multiple local ministries and held offices in the Ohio district of the United Pentecostal Church International. As God miraculously opened doors, the Sharps’ ministry led to Memphis, Tennessee where they served as Pastor for 13 years and Rev. Sharp was Presbyter for 8 years.  Their leadership and love for the work of God has inspired many to follow God’s call in their own lives.

After more than 40 years of active service in the Kingdom, the Sharps settled in Tampa, Florida where they enjoy time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren! The work of God continues to be the centerpiece of their lives and they are again at work under the ministry of Pastor Danny Wilkerson and his lovely wife, Ginger, at Brandon Bible Tabernacle since 2004.  “We have seen tremendous growth and are confident God has great things in store for Bible Tabernacle’s future.”
